Chapter 2: From Dusk Till Dawn

July 2, 2008 / by WritersAnonymous

Alex was desperately knocking on the door of the shrink's office, "Come on damn it!" He punched the door and walked back to his car. As he was opening the door he looked up and saw a short old man standing about fifty yards away. Just standing. Staring. Searching. Alex turned around to see if the old man was looking at anyone else. No one was around. He quickly spun back around to see the man. To Alex's amazement the old man had moved. Right in front of Alex. He jumped back and tripped on the curb and busted his head. Things were blurry in his head. He could barely make out the old man standing over him looking. The old man reached for Alex. Alex went blank.

Alex was running. Running fast. He could feel them behind him. Reaching. Sucking the soul out of him. Every time Alex to ten steps they took fifteen steps. They were gaining on him fast. He knew that. And they knew that. He had to do something. Anything. Thats when he saw it. Glowing with such a majestic glow that it seemed almost to fake even for a dream. The sword was just floating in mid-air. It was double edged. The blade itself was three feet long. Pure, blinding, steel all the way down to the hilt. The handle was wrapped in a deep purple color with a single strand hanging down. The ends of the hilt were made out of pure, transparent, crystal. It was so beautiful that when Alex looked at it he immediately lost all fear. He stopped right in his tracks. Time seemed to freeze altogether. He walked up to the sword. "Woah...." He reached for it but for some reason he couldnt get the gumption to touch it. He immediately dropped to his knees when the voice came. "Do you want it?" The voice demanded an asnwer. Alex was distraught, "I-I-I'm not ready. I couldn't possibly-" "SILENCE!" He was inturupted by the voice again, "I did not call you here for you to say no. Listen to me, son. I made the heavens and the Earth. I am the Beggining AND the End. I call the qualified and qualify the called. And You my son are called. And therefore you are qualified for this task. You do not know it yet but I have a plan for you. The world is in deep trouble. The Dark Forces are at work agaisnt me. The do not realize that they have already lost. They are stubborn as pigs! Together we will silence them. Once and for all." By this time Alex was full fledged on the ground spread out face down. Crying. Broken. "Stand up Alex." He stood, "Take this mark of mine so assure you that I will not abbandon you." Alex's couldn't control his arm. It raised up to eye level. His arm started to glow the same brilliant color as the sword. Then the marks came. They were those similiar to a tribal tatoo. But the went up his arm instead of around. His arm wasn't glowing it was the marks. The voice spoke again, "Listen to me, young one, You will know when it is time. You will know." Alex looked up. The  sword was gone but his arm was still glowing with the marks. Time regained. So did the Screamers. But Alex wasn't afraid. He held his arm up and the Screamers immediately withered away in the shadows. "Oh yeah baby!" Alex smiled and turned around to realize he wasn't the one who made the Screamers wither away. It was something way more evil. It was the Dark One himself. Alex could immediately fill the pressure of the choke hold. "Wait!"

I am not well versed in fantasy writing, but this seems to me to be very well written. You certainly got my attention right off. Would you consider one of these days reading something I am trying to write, also fiction, but a mystery.
